Today's Devotion is "A God Who Tests, A Man Who Trusts, and a Moment of Truth" (Day 27 in our series 40 Days of Easter Truth)
Our Easter Focus Passage today is: Genesis 22:1-14
2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
Now, here's today's Easter Truth:
Many of us are familiar with the story of Abraham and Isaac --- a disturbing yet gripping story of a man who willingly submits to God and is willing to sacrifice his only son. Like a slow-motion picture, as we read this text, we can imagine watching in horror as God commands Abraham to go up to Mount Moriah and sacrifice his only son. The two of them travel to the mountain, Abraham arranges the wood, builds the altar, binds Isaac, lays him on the altar, takes up his knife and is about to do the unspeakable until the very last second when he hears God's voice from Heaven.
